The perfect combination of smart home appliance integrated control platform M071/M471

Nuvoton launched the new models M471 series and M071 series microcontrollers based on the Arm Cortex-M core for the master control of smart home appliances such as White Goods including refrigerators, laundry machines, air conditioners, kitchen appliances such as coffee machines, electric rice cookers, electric ovens, and health care appliances such as robot vacuums, air purifiers, water dispensers, and shaving machines, etc. The M471 and M071 series integrated software test libraries (STL) certified by IEC60730-1 Class B Annex H reduced development time and significantly accelerated the IEC60730-1 home appliance Class-B certification time. They also integrated wide operating voltages from 2.5V to 5.5V to provide an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and multiple packaging with wide pin spacing and excellent high anti-interference features. ESD HBM 8KV and EFT 4.4KV can significantly satisfy the rigidity requirements of smart home appliance systems, including stability, reliability, and security. Nuvoton provides technical support for the ECO system of the platform, allowing users to implement and develop easily and quickly switch to the Nuvoton platform painlessly. It can also significantly reduce the development schedule and accelerate product promotion and launch.

The M471 series is a 32-bit microcontroller based on the Arm Cortex-M4F core. It provides operating frequency as high as 120 MHz, up to 512KB of dual bank Flash that supports FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air), 64 KB of SRAM used during operation, and 32 KB of independent Data Flash that provides 256 Bytes of page erase unit. In addition, the M471 series has rich peripherals integrated, including a custom infrared receiver (CIR) for remote controls, as many as 24 channels of 16-bit PWM, 1 set of Quad-SPI and real-time clock (RTC), two sets of analog comparators, up to 24 channels of 12-bit SAR ADC, and one 8-bit DAC. The M471 series also integrated PRNG (Pseudo Random Number Generator) to support the encryption and decryption needs for the master control of smart home appliances.

The M071 series is a 32-bit microcontroller based on the Arm Cortex-M0 core; its operating frequency can reach as high as 72 MHz. To meet the needs for the master control of smart home appliances, it is equipped with as much as 256KB of Flash, 20 KB of SRAM, 4 KB of ISP (In-System Programming) ROM, ICP (In-Circuit Programming) ROM, and IAP (In-Application Programming) ROM. The VDDIO pin can be adjusted to be used for specific I/O pins. Furthermore, the M071 series integrates SPROM (Security Protection ROM) and provides secure program execution zones to protect developers' intellectual property. In addition, the M071 series is also equipped with large numbers of peripherals, including up to 12 16-bit PWM channels, up to 20 channels of 12-bit ADC, analog comparator, temperature sensor, LVR (Low Voltage Reset), and BOD (Brown-out Detector).

To improve the convenience for the customer’s engineering development, Nuvoton provides the NuMaker smart home appliance development platform based on the NuMicro® M471 and M071 series. The figure below is the NuMaker-M471KI smart home appliance development platform for the M471KI8AE series. The M471 target board includes an embedded trace macrocell (ETM) used to trace instructions and an embedded hardware IR receiver to use for mode pairing and decoding with remote controls. There is a ceramic resonator package reserved on the evaluation board that can be used with 4~24 MHz external high speed clocks (HXT).
