【New Infrastructure for EV Charging series 2 of 2】 The BMS Battery Management System You Must Know

The new infrastructure construction has been in progress at present, and the battery management system becomes most essential for the automotive industry or the communications industry. The charging station’s market scope was NTD8.6 billion in 2019 and the market space may exceed NTD60 billion in 2025. As of this year, the total number of the charging station was 1,287,000, with an annual increase of 35.0%. The demand for BMS battery management also grew rapidly.

Nuvoton provides a total solution for BMS. As the master, NuMicro® NUC1311 commands the AFE to control the battery power and send the battery power information back to the upper computer, such as the meters, to display current power or temperature data. NUC1311 also can command AFE to test and set various temperatures, currents, and voltages for protection, while AFE aims to control the battery status and send the power and temperature data to NUC1311. NUC1311 proceeds to save the battery data in the Flash and send it to the upper computer or the cloud via CAN.

Solution features:

  • NuMicro® NUC1311 battery master
    • Provides an operating voltage of 2.4~5.5V
    • Nuvoton NUC1311 is equipped with one CAN BUS to connect the upper computer
    • Provide SPI/I2C to connect Flash and AFE device
    • 4 UART to connect various peripheral sensing devices
