Enumerating Nuvoton’s industrial-grade low-power microcontrollers: ML51 / M251 / M261

In response to related demands and developments of IoT palmtop devices, applications have expanded to smart appliances, handheld medical equipment, smart farms, smart factories, and smart cities, etc. Nuvoton provides a series of industrial-grade low-power microcontrollers – ML51 / M251 / M261 to help customers extend the usage time and improve the response speed and transmission security level of their products.

Low-power application functions are gradually increasing, so the low-power modes of ML51 / M251 / M261 are further divided. Under different usage scenarios, the performance and amount of electricity required are different. Not only is IDLE and PowerDown provided, as shown in the table below, but ML51 / M251 / M261 can also support multiple low-operation modes and energy-saving modes. Developers can select different power modes according to the computing performance needed for the application scenario, allowing the performance and power consumption of the product to have optimized designs.

In addition to reducing power consumption, enhancing computation speed, and reducing executing time are also issues for current low-power microcontrollers. When it comes to hardware accelerators, Nuvoton focuses first on basic computing and communication encryption/decryption computing designs; multipliers/dividers, CRC and CRYPTO hardware accelerations, etc. are provided so that complicated algorithms can be computed by the CPU even under low speeds.
