High-end product collection: Nuvoton Arm9 microprocessor series

As one of the leading manufacturers of microcontrollers and microprocessors, Nuvoton not only has over a hundred microcontroller products available for selection, it also has many outstanding microprocessor products. This article organized all of Nuvoton’s microprocessor series to allow developers to quickly select the development platform most suitable for them.

Nuvoton’s NuMicro Arm9 microprocessors are mainly divided into three major categories; the NUC970/980 industrial control series, the N9H emWin HMI series, and the N329 multimedia product series. The main frequencies range from 200MHz to 300MHz, supports JPEG and H.264 codecs, has a maximum of 1024 x 768 screen resolution, has multiple hardware encryption engines and peripheral interfaces, all series products use LQFP package, have minimum 2MB and maximum 128MB of DRAM built-in, and can help customers reduce their overall hardware development cost as well as the production, maintenance, and repair costs.

The NUC970 and NUC980 series can be applied in industrial control environments; the products include industrial control human-machine display interface, IoT gateway, network printer, smart meters, and new energy equipment applications, etc. The NUC970/980 series are equipped with a maximum of 11 sets of UART; other interfaces include USB, I2C, SPI, PWM, CMOS, and EBI, etc., providing applications for the multiple protocol communication requirements of industrial products as well as the connection of subsystems. The NUC970 supports RGB display interfaces with a maximum of 1024 x 768 resolution, and even though NUC980 does not come with screens, it can still support a maximum of 4 sets of CAN bus interface, and the interfaces for peripherals were optimized with increased transmission efficiencies. The following is the reference model selection table for NUC970/980:

The N9H series mainly targets the HMI human-machine interface products; they can be applied for smart home equipment, display screens of white appliances, and industrial display units, etc. Nuvoton acquired the emWin software library authorization from SEGGER; this software library allows developers to perform the GUI interface design for HMI through window interfaces, allowing software personnel with no GUI experience to quickly plan the display effects of products and perform the writing of function codes, reducing the time needed to design products, and quickly push the product to the market. The N9H series can be further categorized based on the main frequency speed, screen resolution, and audio/video functions; the reference model selection table is as follows:

The N329 series mainly targets entry-level consumer multimedia products; the core includes audio/video codecs, 2D image processor, RGB LCD output interface, Stereo DAC and other functions; the reference model selection table is as follows:

Nuvoton’s NuMicro Arm9 series provides multiple cores for hardware selection, and Linux, FreeRTOS and bare system solutions are provided for software. Besides, the NuMicro Arm9 series also provides multiple development platforms for initial project evaluation, including the NuMaker NUC980 Industrial IoT development board and NuMaker emWin N9H series development boards, etc. If only one or two sets of platforms are required to perform prototype verification during the initial stages of the project, they can be purchased from Nuvoton’s online store Direct to save the time and money needed for fabrication and assembly during the early assessment.
