Traditional water meters waste a lot of manpower to read the meters
The calculation of billing with traditional water meters requires the use of large amounts of manpower to perform monthly meter reading, especially within rural areas; maintenance is even more difficult. But with the emerging of IoT (Internet of Things) technology, the billing information of water meters can now be sent through wireless networks in order to reduce the waste of manpower cost and became an emerging mainstream. However, comprehensive replacement of water meters will take a lot of time, not to mention the fees required, so alternative solutions were made in response.

Wireless camera module plus image recognition technology
Install CMOS cameras (with wireless transmission modules) on existing traditional water meters and take photos of the water meter cost regularly, then use image recognition technology to identify the digits, and then send out the information through the wireless module.

NuMicro M480 development platform
Nuvoton provides the NuMicro M480 series development platform based on the Cortex-M4 core; it uses GPIO to simulate CMOS interface receiving images (image resolution 320x240), quickly completes image recognition operations with a core speed as high as 192MHz and DSP hardware accelerator, and then transmits the identified digits using the wireless transmission module (such as Wi-Fi, 2G/4G, NB-IoT, and other wireless transmission protocols).
