Nuvoton releases a world’s first smart amplifier with integrated Klippel Control Sound technology based on a nonlinear speaker control algorithm

San Jose, Calif. - 2020/10/20 - Nuvoton Technology Corp., a leading worldwide provider of consumer-electronics and computer ICs, today announced a new mono smart amplifier device, NAU83G10 and NAU83G20, with integrated Klippel Controlled Sound (KCS) technology from Klippel GmbH. 

Loudspeakers are highly nonlinear and time-variant systems. Signal distortion, heating, aging, climate and other external influences limit the maximum level and the quality of the reproduced sound.  Compared to a conventional smart amplifier devices based on a linear speaker model, the KCS algorithm is based on an adaptive & nonlinear speaker control model, which can improve the speaker performance and the sound quality greatly by offering mechanical & thermal protection, automatic system alignment, active compensation of transducer nonlinearities, and active stabilization of the voice coil rest position.  The main benefits of this new technique allow the transducer to operate the wider speaker displacement range without damaging the speaker and to improve the sound quality and AEC barge-in performance by reducing speaker distortions.

Both the NAU83G10 and the NAU83G20 devices are a mono Class D amplifier with IV sense ADCs.  A powerful Cadence Tensilica HiFi Audio DSP core is integrated inside to run the KCS algorithm efficiently, and both devices can support I2C control and I2S/PCM/TDM audio interface.  The NAU83G10 device can deliver up to 8W output power into 4ohm load and 6.5W for 8ohm using a highly efficiency Class G boost converter.  The NAU83G20 device can deliver up to 20W for 4ohm and 11W for 8ohm around 12.6V external battery supply level.
