Nuvoton Technology Holds Investor Conference for the second quarter of 2014

Nuvoton Technology Corp. (TSE: 4919) Today (1), and parent company, Winbond Electronics Corporation (TSE: 2344), held a joint Investor Conference to report second quarter operations and forecast economic conditions for the third quarter of 2014. Consolidated revenue for the second quarter of 2014 was approximated NT$1,894 million, an increase of 17% from the previous quarter. Net income was about NT$180 million and an increase of 57% compared the second quarter of 2013.The Earnings per share was NT$ 0.87, an increase of 308% from the previous quarter. Gross margin rate was 43.8%.

According to Nuvoton Technology, the coming of high seasons for Consumer and Foundry Service industries, coupled with the sustained growth of shipments of its 32-bit MCU applications and Audio Enhancement IC are the main reasons that accounted for the improved performance in the second quarter compared to the first quarter in terms of revenues.

In addition to higher revenues, Nuvoton also launched a series of innovative products, including the ARM® Cortex®- M4 32-bit microcontroller NUC472 series, the ARM® Cortex®-M0 32-bit microcontroller and new power control IC and new SIO that support Intel® 9 series chipset. The NUC472 series feature symmetric encryption/decryption hardware accelerator to enable clients to achieve rapid development of various applications with minimal costs and is especially suited for industrial network control, modernized electric machine and motor controls while the ARM® Cortex®-M0 32-bit microcontroller products are designed for low power-consuming products and applications.

Nuvoton pointed out that in addition to back-to-school demand, another focus for business observation in the third quarter would be Intel®’s launch of its NB and next-gen server platform, which are expected to spark demands for NB and server update. Not only that, with low power-consuming products establishing their presence as mainstream products and audio related IC demand on the upside, Nuvoton will also be focusing its R&D resources on the emerging domain of these products. For the third quarter, in addition to continuing with the promotion of ARM® Cortex®- M4 32 microcontroller products, Nuvoton will also be launching new offerings for ARM® Cortex®- M0 based Audio SoC, new IC for Intel® SkyLake plate and ARM® 9 series with high cost/performance ratio.
