Nuvoton Technology Announces Financial Results for the Second Quarter of 2011
Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. - August 4, 2011 - Nuvoton Technology Corp. (TWSE: 4919) today (4) held Board of Directors meeting and announced its audited financial results for the first half of 2011. The consolidated revenue for the second quarter of 2011 are approximately NT$2,190 million, up 30% quarter-over-quarter; net income are NT$209 million, up 244% quarter-over-quarter, with EPS of NT$1.01.
The company said the sales of general IC products grew approximately 27.9% quarterly. In addition to the fact that IC industry gradually stepped into the traditional peak season in the second quarter, the smooth shipment volume of new products, such as Nuvoton ARM® Cortex™-M0 32-bit microcontroller, embedded input-output controller (Embedded SIO) and IC for educational learning machine (ELA, Education Learning Aid) also had a significant contribution to revenue. As for the foundry business, the sales revenue grew approximately 40% quarter-over-quarter. The primary growth impetus came from the surge in orders after Japan earthquake and the orders placed in advance. According to Nuvoton, the third quarter is the traditional peak season for the computer industry and consumer IC. For the computer industry, the laptop and motherboard had gradually passed the slack season, but the intensity of growth to be observed. For the low-end consumer IC industry, restrained from the rising price of raw materials and wages in China, the impact of peak season might not be as strong as previous year. Looking into the third quarter, Nuvoton will uphold the strategic directions of "stable profitability," "innovation", and "growth". Besides expanding the application and market share of the 32-bit microcontroller, the company will continue to promote the application of embedded controller (Embedded Controller) on tablet PCs (Tablet) to create new momentum of revenue growth. *Note: Nuvoton and NuVoice are registered trademarks of Nuvoton Technology Corp.
