Nuvoton Technology Announces Financial Results for the Second Quarter of 2012

Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. - Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. - July 31, 2012 - Nuvoton Technology Corp. (TWSE: 4919) yesterday announced the financial results for the second quarter of 2012, the net income hit the record high, and the second quarter EPS was NT$ 1.49. Today (31) Nuvoton held the Investor Conference to report the second quarter operation result and forecast economic condition of the third quarter of 2012. The consolidated revenue of the second quarter of 2012 was approximately NT$2,237 million, an increase of 37% from the previous quarter. The net income was NT$309 million, an increase of 209% from the previous quarter and an increase of 47% compared the second quarter of 2011.

The gross margin of the second quarter of 2012 was 42.3%, an increase of 1.9% from the previous quarter. The revenue was approximately 78.9% from IC Business, and 21.1% from Foundry Service Business divided by the business groups. For IC Business, quarter over quarter, revenue increased 31.9%, it resulted from the promotion performance of 32 bits ARM® Cortex™ -M0 MCU and the dual demand of existing and new products for computer IC due to Intel Ivy Bridge delay. For Foundry Service Business, benefited from the strong demand of Power Management technology, and the smooth mass production of Embedded Flash and High Voltage/Power IC process, the revenue and production efficiency get growth as well.

Nuvoton said that global economic conditions for the economic influence of the IC industry is gradually enhanced; Traditionally, the third quarter is the hot season of consumer IC and computer IC industry, but this pattern is not apparent as usual. Looking ahead the economic condition of the third quarter of 2012, It cannot rule out the possibility that 2012 will be as the same as the model of 2011 -- the second quarter is the peak of the year. But, in the meantime, the economic situations of Europe and the United States, new computer sales of lntel Ivy Bridge, and the market reaction of Windows 8 are the key factors to the condition of IC industry of the third quarter of 2012. We should pay closer attention and observation on them.

Regarding the progress of new products in the third quarter of 2012, ARM® Cortex™-M0 32-bit MCU series are still the focus, besides the established market share of touch application, Nuvoton will launch new product for non-touch application to expand the market share. Meanwhile, the new Power Switch IC which is applicable for tablet PC, the 32 bits ARM® SoC for high-end Toy and Audio Enhancement IC are the key products for promotion as well. Moreover, Nuvoton will keep pursuing the optimum operation performance through the balanced development of product lines and effectively grasp the trend and opportunity of new market and various applications.
